For our site in Heerlen (De Beitel), we are seeking a Work Planning Team Lead who wants to combine their experience as a senior work planner with an active role in team development and collaboration.

The role in brief

In this role, you will primarily serve as a work planner and also act as the substantive and operational point of contact for the team (with hierarchical responsibility). The work consists largely of hands‑on tasks within work planning. In addition, there is a supplementary role as team lead, in which you will lead the team alongside your existing responsibilities. You will therefore remain firmly grounded in practical work while simultaneously contributing to the team’s further professional development.

What will you be doing?

Maintenance Field Planning

  • Prepare maintenance and construction work so that it can be carried out safely, efficiently, and predictably:
    • Assess work orders for completeness, clarity, and feasibility.
    • Prepare maintenance and construction work within budget and schedule.
    • Coordinating and reserving necessary resources, materials.
    • Prepare and manage work packages (technical documentation, diagrams, work permits).
    • Assess and verify work performed in the field, in close coordination with maintenance and operations.
    • Monitor and compare costs (budgeted versus actual).
    • Evaluate completed work and initiate improvement proposals.
    • Work in accordance with applicable Quality, Environment, Safety, Security, and Health (QESSH) guidelines.

Team Lead Maintenance Field Planning

In this role, you will lead the Field planning team (including MRO and Guidance & Control) and be responsible for day‑to‑day management and team development. In addition to your substantive role, you actively contribute to the team and the organization.

  • Lead and coach fellow work planners in their daily work.
  • Organize and streamline team tasks and work processes.
  • Identify bottlenecks and contribute ideas for structural solutions.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration, both within the team and with other departments.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to management.
  • Conduct performance reviews and actively guide the development and performance of team members.
  • Engage with the Maintenance & Projects (M&P) leadership team.
  • Engage with the APM Site Heerlen leadership group.

Responsibilities

  • Complete projects with minimal guidance, showing a proactive attitude to design and installations.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical devices in operation; dismantle and examine devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, repair or replace defective parts.
  • Troubleshoot and repair input/output devices using PLC systems.
  • Troubleshoot, complete, design, upgrade and install electrical equipment, circuits and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace electrical components at the component level.
  • Set up and operate shop machinery such as lathe, drill press, grinders, band saw, cutting torch, welder, etc.; use hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
  • Install new or repair/modify hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Improve reliability and uptime of all equipment, taking a proactive approach with a preventive maintenance mentality.
  • Operate the cooling water and waste water system in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Operate forklift and hydraulic working platform as needed.
  • Research supplies, parts and machines needed to complete work orders.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
  • Perform and document work orders and preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Document work completed and contribute to upkeep and updating of required paperwork such as records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings, PM logs, etc.
  • Support the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
  • Follow applicable ISO, Safety, Health and Environmental rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.
  • Cover for Maintenance Supervisor when Supervisor is not present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other

  • Requires an Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school in maintenance mechanics or related field.
  • Plus five years experience in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, construction; or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Must have 2.5 years in a Maintenance Associate position.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting PLCs, electrical and components, pneumatic, instrumentation and mechanical areas. Proven expertise in industrial electrical including design, sizing, installation and component‑level troubleshooting. Experience in other fields such as plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry, welding, forklift repair, etc. Competent PC (MS Office and Windows) computer skills.
  • Experience should include the following:
    • Complex machine controls and instrumentation (including sophisticated instrument systems, PLCs, etc.).
    • Complex welding/brazing, complex hydraulics, plumbing, pneumatics, carpentry.
    • Ability to operate a wide variety of tools such as hand tools, power tools, drill press, band saw, welder, cutting torch, lathe, etc.
    • Knowledge of industrial electrical, including advanced electrical (three‑phase 260 volt and higher) design, sizing of components and installations.
    • Proven knowledge of electrical component troubleshooting and repair.
    • Knowledge of mechanical systems including gearboxes, motors, air compressors, pumps, AC, DC, drive troubleshooting.
    • Ability to read, communicate and comprehend written and oral instructions in English.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in writing through letters and email.
    • Ability to conduct research on the Internet or company intranet.
    • Ability to implement, enforce and maintain guidelines set by the Company or management.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment; strong organization skills, self‑starter motivation, prioritization aligned with plant priorities, continuous improvement mindset and results oriented.
    • Mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of weight, volume and distance; ability to apply logical or scientific thinking. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs).
    • Ability to reason and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, scales, spatula, barrel cart, hand trucks, forklift, utility knife and mixer/blender machinery and computer equipment.

Qualifications

  • MBO 4 or HBO level of education and thinking, preferably in a technical field.
  • Extensive experience as a work planner/maintenance field planner in an industrial or manufacturing environment, ideally in the process industry with an understanding of SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) requirements.
  • Seniority in the field; can maintain an overview and set priorities.
  • Experience with or a clear ambition toward a coordinating or team lead role.
  • Strong communication skills and a collegial, coaching style.
  • Analytical, structured, and continuously focused on improvement.
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to quality.
  • Flexible mindset; can balance short‑term urgencies from Operations with long‑term planned activities.
